Modern is the technical form of jazz, which all the musical stars study. Modern has a variety of styles including strong jazz and a slow lyrical style. Classes improve a sense of performance and are excellent for developing co-ordination, balance, style and confidence. Strong and sharp movements are greatly aided by a good background in ballet technique. However, while ballet movement emphasises the upbeat of music, modern dance emphasizes the downbeat.
