Our aim at Southern Arts Academy (SAA) is to teach children to dance in a fun and friendly environment and to inspire in pupils a love for dancing and performing.
Classes are taught by our professional teachers and with over 150 pupils, we run a comprehensive timetable at Denmead, Southwick and Horndean. Each being local to the Waterlooville area.
We have classes to suit all abilities from 3 years to adults and offer classes in I.S.T.D Modern, Tap and Ballet, NATD Street Dance, as well as Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Show, competition and private tuition. The academy itself trains as a performing school rather than focusing on exams; we believe that the most valid source of skill, knowledge and technique in the performing arts is to be found before audiences, although we encourage students to participate in every aspect of SAA, exams and shows are not compulsory.
SAA was founded in September 2004 by Katrina Parsons, the academy started with around 60 pupils aged between 3 and 103. In September 2005 we incorporated the Alexandra school of dance and the academy grew to over 150 pupils, as a result we expanded from teaching three days a week to five. We are pleased to announce that two students have won a place in the Youth Ballet Company, one student has got through to the England Tap Group and we are now performing in the West End of London on an annual basis.
We like to introduce many different opportunities for our pupils so they are always learning new ideas and can build up a professional portfolio for their future careers. We always welcome new members to the academy so if you would like to be a student then please don’t hesitate to contact us.
